Scripture
“The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—for your love is better than wine.”
— Song of Songs 1:1–2a
Devotional
The Song of Songs opens with a bold, breathtaking declaration—this is not just a song, but the Song of all songs. The Holy Spirit invites us into the greatest love story ever told, where Jesus is revealed as the Bridegroom King who pursues, delights in, and rescues His beloved.
Before a single command is given, before a single journey begins, the very first cry of the bride is this: “Let Him…” It is a prayer of longing, invitation, and surrender. She isn’t reaching for religion. She’s reaching for a Person—the King who rules with love, leads with kindness, and wins hearts not by force but by affection.
When she declares, “Your love is better than wine,” she is confessing that His love satisfies more than anything this world can offer. Think of wine as every earthly pleasure, every temporary thrill, every passing comfort. And yet Jesus stands above it all—steady, faithful, unrivaled.
The Bridegroom King is the One who draws us, awakens us, restores us, and calls us into a relationship marked not by fear, but by love. As you begin this journey through the Song of All Songs, let this be your starting point: surrendering to the King whose love is truly better than anything else.
Reflection Question
What areas of my heart need to say “Let Him”—giving Jesus permission to love me, lead me, and transform me?
Prayer
Jesus, my Bridegroom King, I invite You to draw near. Let Your love awaken my heart again. Teach me to desire You above all the things that promise satisfaction but never fill me. Your love is better than wine—better than anything this world can give. Rule in my heart with Your kindness, and lead me deeper into Your love. Amen.
