Song of Solomon 1:4a — “Draw me after You; let us run.”
There is a sacred cry woven into the heart of every believer—a longing to be closer to Jesus than we are right now. We feel it in worship, in prayer, in quiet moments of reflection. It’s the desire that whispers, “Lord, I want more of You.”
The bride in the Song of All Songs gives language to this holy desire:
“Draw me after You.”
She understands something profound: intimacy with God is always initiated by God Himself. We don’t wake up one day and decide to pursue Him. We respond to a pull, a stirring, a gentle tug on the heart. Every longing for God is a sign that He is already near, already working, already inviting us deeper.
The Pursuit Begins With Him
This prayer, “Draw me,” is not a confession of weakness—it is a declaration of dependence. We cannot run without His strength. We cannot love without His love. We cannot seek Him without His Spirit awakening hunger in us.
And the beautiful truth?
He delights to draw us.
He draws us with kindness.
He draws us with beauty.
He draws us with whispers of belonging.
He draws us with the assurance that we are wanted, chosen, and beloved.
Running With Him
The bride doesn’t stop at “Draw me.” She adds, “Let us run.”
This is not the run of fear or striving—it is the run of joyful pursuit.
To run with Jesus is to move with His heartbeat.
To run with Him is to keep pace with His voice.
To run with Him is to trust His leading, even when the path is unfamiliar.
When Jesus draws you, He doesn’t pull you into passivity. He pulls you into movement—movement toward Him, toward freedom, toward purpose, toward transformation.
And the best part?
You don’t run alone.
He runs with you.
The God Who Wants You Close
The cry, “Draw me after You,” is not a desperate plea shouted into the void. It’s a prayer that God always answers because it aligns perfectly with His heart.
He wants you near.
He wants you close.
He wants you whole.
He wants you running beside Him, not behind Him.
Every time you feel that tug toward prayer, worship, Scripture, or stillness—it’s Him.
Every time your heart aches for more—it’s Him.
Every time you feel stirred to surrender, obey, or trust—it’s Him.
He is drawing you because He loves you.
Answer the Gentle Pull
Pause for a moment.
What is He drawing you into today?
Deeper rest?
Greater surrender?
More trust?
Renewed worship?
Whatever it is, whisper back to Him:
“Draw me after You, Jesus.”
And as you respond, may you find yourself running—
not out of obligation,
but out of love,
joy,
and the undeniable pull of the One who loves you more than you could ever imagine.
